Govt picks BHEL to lead EV charging app under ₹2,000-crore PM E-Drive scheme

State-owned

Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited

(BHEL) will be the nodal agency for developing a

unified digital super app

to serve as a single platform for Electric Vehicle (EV) users across India. An official statement said the app will feature real-time slot booking, payment integration, charger availability status, and progress dashboards for tracking national deployment under the

PM E-Drive scheme

.

BHEL will also coordinate with states and ministries to compile and evaluate proposals for charger installations, the statement added.

The decision to entrust BHEL with this task was taken during a meeting to review the PM E-Drive scheme. With financial outlay of ₹2,000 crore, the scheme aims to support installation of approximately 72,000 EV public charging stations across the country. The stations will be deployed along 50 national highway corridors, within high-traffic destinations such as metro cities, toll plazas, railway stations, airports, etc.
