Honda Motorcycle to expand Gujarat plant with ₹920 cr investment in fourth production line

Honda Motorcycle Scooter India (HMSI) announced a major expansion of its manufacturing footprint with the addition of a fourth production line at its Vithalapur, Ahmedabad plant in Gujarat.

Slated to be operational by 2027, the new line will boost the plant’s total annual capacity to 2.61 million units, making it Honda’s largest motorcycle assembly facility globally.

The new production line involves an investment of ₹920 crore and will create 1,800 new jobs. It will focus on manufacturing 125cc motorcycles, aligning with growing domestic and international demand in that segment.

The company’s total annual capacity across its four Indian plants is set to rise from 6.14 million to approximately 7 million units by 2027.

“Honda continues to invest in India, the world’s largest motorcycle market, to meet rising customer expectations and deliver globally trusted products,” said Tsutsumu Otani, President & CEO of HMSI.

In April 2025, the company's total sales stood at 4,80,896 units, including domestic sales of 4,22,931 units and 57,965 units exports.

India is a key player in Honda's global volume and EV ambitions. The company is targeting a sale of 6.26 million units in FY26, up 7 per cent from its sale of 5.86 million units in FY25.
