The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (
MSDE) has partnered with
Shell Indiato launch a comprehensive
skills training initiativefocused on
green energyand
electric vehicles(EVs). The initiative will impart industry-aligned training to students and faculty in select regions across India to build a future-ready workforce, The Economic Times reports.
The programme will be rolled out through the Directorate General of Training (DGT) under MSDE, in collaboration with Shell India’s training partner, Edunet Foundation. Training will take place at select Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and National Skill Training Institutes (NSTIs) in Delhi-NCR, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka.
Under the programme, specialised EV skill labs will be set up in designated ITIs and NSTIs to provide immersive, practical training. The labs will offer expert-led sessions covering EV systems, battery technology, diagnostics, digital tools, and safety protocols. The curriculum has been co-developed by Shell, Edunet Foundation, and DGT to ensure alignment with industry standards.
Multi-Tier Training Model
The initiative will follow a structured, three-tier approach:
-Advanced EV Technician Course: A 240-hour course offered at four NSTIs.
-Job-Oriented Skills Training: A 90-hour course at 12 ITIs equipped with Shell-supported labs.
-Foundational Green Skills Module: A 50-hour introductory module at other ITIs lacking physical lab infrastructure.
Jayant Chaudhary, Minister of State (Independent Charge), MSDE, said, “This initiative is part of our larger vision to create a workforce that is not only job-ready but climate-ready. We are equipping young Indians with the skills to shape, and not just participate in, the global green economy.”
